Lotto FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Lotto Lottery

What is Lotto?

Lotto is Italy’s main lottery. Unlike progressive jackpot games such as Eurojackpot, Lotto offers a variety of game options that allow players greater control over their odds of winning, the prizes available, and the stake amounts.

In short, players choose 1 to 10 numbers from a pool of 1–90, select one or more of the 11 wheels to bet on, and decide which type of bet to place. For each of the 11 wheels, five numbers are drawn randomly from independent sets of 1–90.

What games are available with Lotto?

In addition to the main draws, players can take part in additional games and options such as Simbolotto, Numero Oro, and Lotto Più.

When are Lotto draws held?

Lotto draws take place at 20:00 (8:00 PM) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

What time do ticket sales close?

Ticket sales are suspended between 19:30 and 21:30 on draw days.

Where can I play Lotto?

You can play at any authorized retailer in Italy, online via the official portal, or through the My Lotteries app (available for iOS and Android).

How much does it cost to play?

The cost depends on the type of bet you choose. The minimum bet is €1, and the maximum is €200, with the option to increase stakes in increments of €0.50.

What is the minimum age to play?

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a Lotto ticket.

How many consecutive draws can I play?

Through the Lotto subscription system, you can participate in up to 50 consecutive draws with the same play.

How much can you win?

The maximum prize for a €1 ticket is €6,000,000.

What are the odds of winning?

The odds vary depending on the numbers you choose and the type of bet. The probability of a particular number being drawn on a specific wheel is 1 in 18.

How do I claim a prize?

The method for claiming winnings depends on the amount won and whether the bet was placed online or via a paper ticket. For more information, see our page on Lotto prize collection.
