How the SuperEnalotto Draw Works
The drawing of the SuperEnalotto numbers follows a strict, multi-phase procedure, carried out under the close supervision of designated commissions. The draws take place at the headquarters of the State Monopolies Agency, located in Piazza Mastai, Rome.
The Phases of the Drawing
The various commissions ensure that the procedure is carried out correctly according to a process divided into seven operational stages:
- At 6:30 p.m., technical tests begin. The staff in charge of the drawing machines perform checks to verify that they are functioning correctly.
- The video-monitored safe containing four briefcases with the balls to be used in the draw is opened. Two briefcases are randomly selected, one for the draw of the main six numbers and the Jolly number, and a second for the SuperStar number. A third briefcase is kept as a backup.
- At 7:30 p.m., in a separate location, the Winning Plays Determination Commission records all the plays onto non-rewritable optical media, which are then securely stored in a safe.
- At 8:00 p.m., the draw takes place. Two separate machines are used – one for drawing the six main numbers and the Jolly number, and another for the SuperStar number. The draw is validated by the supervising commissions.
- The drawn combination and the corresponding jackpot amount are then officially announced.
- The Winning Plays Determination Commission activates the software that compares the drawn combination with all submitted plays, thereby identifying the winning tickets.
- The final stage involves announcing the individual prize amounts for each category and the number of winners. The used balls are then returned to their briefcases and placed back into the video-monitored safe.
The same procedure is carried out for every draw.
